Dream Belly-up (Dog or Fish?) | Žygimantas Kudirka exhibition

In an extraordinary fusion of space, the bar "O kodėl ne?" situated at A. Juozapavičius ave. 122 A, will become the host for an intriguing exhibition of the program "Dream Belly-up (Dog or Fish?)" curated by the Kaunas Artists' House, starting from May 10.

The exhibition will welcome visitors on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 15:00 to 19:00, until June 8. No prior registration is necessary, and admission is free.

"Total Alienation" by Žygimantas Kudirka, a three-channel video piece delves into the complexities of the human body, its relationship with technology, and the notion of identity. In an era dominated by technological advancements, Kudirka prompts viewers to contemplate the concept of the body as a malleable entity, influenced by societal and technological constructs, blurring the lines between reality and virtuality.

The visual component of the piece is a collage sourced from various public video databases, creating a mesmerizing display across three screens. Accompanied by a polyphony of voices in both Lithuanian and English, the auditory experience adds depth to the exploration of themes such as bio-politics, identity formation, and the manipulation of perception.

Drawing inspiration from the realm of science fiction, the works of Phillip K. Dick especially his novel We Can Remember It for You Wholesale later turned into a movie “Total Recall” Kudirka weaves a narrative that challenges conventional notions of selfhood, incorporating elements from literary sources and philosophical discourses.

Set within the unconventional backdrop of a former train station premises, transformed into the eclectic ambiance of "O kodėl ne?," this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a futuristic exploration of sound and imagery. Against the backdrop of a world inundated with information, Kudirka's artistic intervention serves as a poignant reflection on the complexities of modern society, navigating the terrain of data saturation, algorithmic control, and the quest for authentic identity.
