Video archives of „sumirimas / Didelis pasaulis!“ festival
In November 1996, the first revolutionary festival of contemporary music "sumirimas" (otherwise - "Didelis pasaulis!") took place in Kaunas, Lithuania. Most Lithuanian contemporary music groups or performers of that time took part in the festival.
Festival caused confusion among journalists and critics, and some of the groups that played in it even received bullying. There were actions on the stage that were in sharp contrast to the still Soviet 1996 concept of art. But the event was appealing to his enthusiasts, with the audience replying that they didn’t want to leave.
The organizer Ramūnas Jaras of the festival was not in a commercial mood, so there were big number of groups to accommodate each day of the festival, which resulted in the concerts ending in the morning. R. Jaras claims that he organized the festival mostly out of his own money, guided by the idealistic goal of giving a stage to Lithuanian contemporary art.
