CityTelling Festival. Concert. Anatolij Senderov "After Chagall"

Anatoly Shenderov's work will be performed by the Chordos String Quartet, clarinetist Algirdas Žiūra, and percussionist Arkadijus Gotesmanas. The composer plays with Jewish musical motifs: the clarinet solos are performed in the manner of klezmer music, whereas the string quartet plays as a background and creates a variety of highly expressive sonoristic sounds. Šenderov and Gotesman have a long creative personal friendship: Gotesman made a stand specifically for this work, which can hold sounding pieces of stained glass. "When I was first in Jerusalem at the Hadassah Medical Centre almost 30 years ago, I saw in the special hall (synagogue) the colors on the floor which were extraordinarily bright. It was a reflection of Marc Chagall's twelve stained-glass windows mounted high up near the ceiling. They were full of symbols - triangles and circles, imprints of birds, fish, beasts, menorahs, and Hebrew letters. A kind of Babylon. However, Chagall's main source of inspiration is the Bible and his own experience. The image was constantly changing because of the sun. My work is also full of symbols - the clarinet recalls the former Jewish life in Europe, and the percussion and the string quartet are like an allusion to the Biblical world. Venue of the concert: Vytautas Magnus University Great Hall, S. Daukanto str. 28. A concert will take place during Kaunas 2022 Litvak Culture Forum. IMPORTANT.
