Hiding Places of the Mythical Beast in Cross-Sections of Kaunas Modernism
In 2021 the festival KAUNAS PHOTO organised an art residency, during which New Zealand artist Chirag Jindal took a deeper look into the iconic buildings of Kaunas modernism, bringing together both the visible part of the buildings and their underground into one single image.
According to Mindaugas Kavaliauskas, the author of the idea and art curator of the project, the artist's creative method will remain a secret, but the artworks will uncover the veil of mystery and show what Kaunas residents and visitors would otherwise never see—the underworld, and its locally global stories, where the Mythical Beast of Kaunas may have been hiding since ancient times.
The exhibition is presented open-air, 24/7 on Vienybės square and looks best in the hours of darkness.
