Neringa Naujokaitė. Transit Spaces

The exhibition “Transit Spaces” by the German based Lithuanian artist Neringa Naujokaitė will open in Meno Parkas Gallery (Rotušės a. 27, Kaunas) on August 12, Friday, at 6 pm.
2022 is the year of the 25th anniversary for Meno Parkas Gallery. To commemorate this event, Gallery presents the project "Meno Parkui–25", which consists of exhibitions by the known Lithuanian artists, and the exhibition “Transit Spaces” by media artist N. Naujokaitė is one them. It presents video installations, videos and photography – all summarised by the concept of Transit Spaces, which is today as relevant as ever. They deal with barriers, migration, social exclusion and clichés. All of the works on display have never been shown in Lithuania before.
In her projects, the artist deals with social themes, the interaction between the individuals and their environment, as well as sensitive society issues. Naujokaite's installations are multi-layered video and slide projections which involve sound and text, spatial objects. Often the projection screen itself becomes a volumetric object in space, which is „folded“ or cut into separate planes, shifted in space. The media of video and photography are best suited to reveal the reality-based, documentary content of Naujokaite's work – depictions of people and of social or urban spaces.
Neringa Naujokaitė (*1966) graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Arts and Kunstakademie Dusseldorf, in 2003 she completed her postgraduate studies in audio-visual media at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM). She has had solo exhibitions in Germany and Switzerland, and has participated in group exhibitions in Finland, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic and China. Her works are in public and private art collections in Germany and Austria. Naujokaite's work has won numerous awards, including the Award of the International Foundation of Women Artists „Die Höge“, the Ida Gerhardi Prize, the Fine Art Award of the Land Capital Dusseldorf and the Bremen Video Art Award. The artist lives and creates in Germany.
The exhibition will be open until September 8.
The project is supported by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
