Open lecture+workshop: plastic in design
Why do we think of plastic as a polluting material? Is it the most basic rubbish we know, or the most easily recyclable material for a sustainable future?
Using examples from the history of design, we will rethink the role of plastic in product design and discuss whether it is possible to find a balance between functionality, aesthetics and ecology.
The lecture and workshop are organised as part of the Material DesignLibrary project, which aims to educate the design community, industry and consumers about the real possibilities of reusing industrial waste through digital fabrication technologies.
The project activities are divided into two main parts: physical research on materials engineering, and the digitisation of the thematic library and the development of a publicly accessible collection.
