Photography exhibition "Ki |r| timai. A Look at the Kirtimai Micro-district"

Exhibition of photographs by the young generation photographer Ieva Austinskaitė "Ki|r|timai. A glimpse into the Kirtimai micro-district" is coming to the author's hometown - Kaunas, and will be exhibited at the Kaunas Artists' House from May 15.

The project, initiated by the Kirtimai Cultural Centre, which is known as an oasis of alternative culture in Vilnius, was presented last year in several cultural spaces in Vilnius and is aimed at exploring the Kirtimai district - a rapidly changing part of the capital city that is full of contrasts: the newly emerging business centers, the industrial and residential heritage of the inter-war and the Soviet periods of Vilnius.

Together with photographer Ieva Austinskaitė, we sought to explore the face of this part of the city. After a year-long photographic research, she presents her view on the present of the Kirtimai district. Her photographic narrative is documentation of street fragments, architecture, and signs of everyday life, revealing to the viewer the changing and contrasting presence of the suburb.

I. Austinskaitė's photographic series captures several faces of Kirtimai: the reflection of the new territory of corporations and large logistics centers and their structures, the old, industrial, "factory" face, and a relatively small number of residential houses, shacks, playgrounds, and the everyday life that is more rustic than urban.

Ieva Austinskaitė's work explores the structures of public spaces, the urban environment, and the relationship between man and the city. The artist currently lives and works in Kaunas. She completed her BA in Photography at Middlesex University, MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art in London, and resided at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Her work has been published and presented in exhibitions and publications since 2011.

The architect of the exhibition: Vladas Suncovas.
