Exhibition "Atodanga"

𝐊𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬’ 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝟓𝟐 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝. Considering the number of various transformations and historically important changes that have taken place in Lithuania, this is a significant number for a cultural institution. Over the past decades, Kaunas Artists' House has changed not only the functions of its premises but also the artworks that are temporarily or permanently housed in the building's interiors. Currently, the artists' works that have been preserved for a longer period of time are stained glass windows „𝑀𝑢̄𝑧𝑜𝑠” (“The Muses“) by Vytautas Banys, ceramic panel „𝑃𝑒̇𝑑𝑠𝑎𝑘𝑎𝑠” (“Footprint”) by Aldona Keturakienė and installation piece „𝑇𝑎𝑟𝑝 𝑅𝑦𝑡𝑢̨ 𝑉𝑎𝑘𝑎𝑟𝑢̨ 𝑦𝑟a 𝑡𝑜𝑘𝑖𝑎 𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑡𝑎” (“Between East and West there is such a place”) by Marija Nemčenko.

 The object-oriented exhibition "Atodanga" („Exposure“) at Kaunas Artists’ House seeks to reveal the institution's potential to accommodate the pieces of professional art in its interiors while exposing the institution's architectural and conceptual assemblages and highlighting unexpected interpretations of its work.

 The exhibition is inspired by the story of Aldona Keturakienė's work “Pėdsakas” (“Footprint”) when it was included in the list of destroyable works in the Soviet time. Its fate was determined by the final decision of the building's architect, Vytautas Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, as to whether such an intervention in the building was appropriate. What determines long-term artistic interventions in institutional spaces today?

The exhibition “Atodanga“ („Exposure“) creates various scenarios of interaction between artworks and the institution, with visual artists Julija Pociūtė, Aistė Ambrazevičiūtė, Aldona Keturakienė, Eglė Marcinkevičiūtė, and Morta Jonynaitė inviting us to uncover the multi-layered nature of the changing institution while exposing the surfaces of its walls.
