The exhibition "Resentment and Healing"

The exhibition “Resentment and Healing” organized by the West German Artists’ Association (WKB) will open in Meno Parkas Gallery (Rotušės sq. 27, Kaunas) on May 3, Friday, at 6 pm.

Over the years, subject areas in visual arts and their various artistic and media approaches have repeatedly undergone revisions, reformulations or new formulations in terms of content and form.

The West German Artists' Association also sets itself the task of presenting these changing positions at appropriate intervals. Numerous members of the artists' association pursue a figurative concept in their work in a variety of ways.

In the exhibition project “Resentment and Healing”, artists from different generations will show their specific realizations on the theme of “figuration”. Painting, graphics and sculpture, as well as cross-media forms of realization, will come together in a coherent and exciting way to form an overall presentation.

The figurative approaches on display show individual representations of reality, depict what is seen, but also open up to free forms that barely reveal their intellectual or visual origins. In this case, “figure” is a painterly gesture, the formation of an idea of it.
The visitor is offered various approaches to content that can broaden the view of reality.
The exhibition title “Resentment and Healing” may be an ironic reference to the fact that figuration is still often considered too old fashion academic in the current art scene. The selection of works and their presentation can have a “reconciling” effect because, as shown, they open up in many directions full of suspense.

The two curators Heiner Geisbe, Straelen and Thomas Prautsch, Münster, painters themselves, are particularly involved with the theme in their artistic work. They have invited 14 colleagues from the West German Artists' Association to show their respective current approaches to the theme.

The participating artists:

Julia Arztmann, Münster - painting; Jackie Bamfaste, Weeze - sculpture; Edgar Eubel, Recklinghausen - paintng; Friedhelm Falke, Cologne - painting; Peter Gros, Bochum - painting; Ulrich Haarlammert, Münster - photo, video; Andrea Küster, Düsseldorf - painting; Ulrich Langenbach, Siegen - mixed media; Marion Nießing, Münster - photo/painting; Edith Oellers, Düsseldorf - painting; Stehanie Pech, Bonn - painting; Silke Rehberg, Münster - ceramik sculpture; Elke Seppmann; Münster - painting; Bernhard Sprute, Bad Oeynhausen - painting.

This exhibition is connected with the almost 25-year cooperation partnership between the West German Artists' Association WKB and the Lithuanian Artists' Association gallery Meno Parkas. In mutual project exchanges, current artistic themes have been the subject of exhibitions. This was accompanied by numerous studio visits and meetings between fellow artists from both Artists' Associations.

The project is funded by:
Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, LWL Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe, Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation, Lithuanian Council for Culture.

The exhibition in Meno Parkas gallery will be open until May 31.

Gallery's working hours: II-V 11:00–18:30 ❖ VI–VII - 11:00–16:00 ❖ I - Closed
