Exhibition of Tadas Bujanauskas "Decorative Sculpture in Kaunas"

We invite you to the exhibition of illustrations "Decorative sculpture in Kaunas" by Tadas Bujanauskas. The exhibition will open on July 14 at 7 p.m. in the gallery space of Kaunas Artists' House. The exhibition will be open to the visitors until July 29 during the working hours of Kaunas Artists' House.
With this series of illustrations, artist Tadas Bujanauskas aims to remind about the sculptures in Kaunas that have been forgotten by time and people. Scattered throughout the city, works belonging to various genres usually emphasize certain nearby objects, often simply decorating parks or squares. Many of the sculptures shown in the illustrations were created during the Soviet occupation. The cycle was inspired by the artist's own discoveries and interest in the authors of the sculptures as well as the stories of their creation process.
Not all Kaunas sculptures are in the exhibition. Tadas Bujanauskas chose for himself the most interesting and symbolic works in the city. The artist is fascinated by the sculptures located not in the center, but in the further districts of Kaunas, many of which also have elements or messages typical of the Soviet times. Some of the sculptures fascinate with incredible scale, others with extremely clean lines or shapes that look impressive even in the current context.
While creating this cycle, a big discovery for the artist was pano. There are quite a few works of this decorative sculpture type in Kaunas and throughout Lithuania, they usually decorate the facades of important buildings, universities, cultural spaces.
In the exhibition, most of the works you will see will be by the sculptor Juozas Ruzgas, one of Tadas Bujanauskas' favorite sculptors. Many of the works by Ruzgas are in Kaunas, such as the legendary works "Thunder" (1967), "Palangos Juzė" (1978), the incomprehensible scale copper pan "Šiluma" (1973). "Plasma" (1972) on the wall of the Lithuanian Energy Institute fascinates with its aesthetics and minimalism.
For the illustrations of the cycle, the artist chose the risography technique, which turned out to be the most suitable for revealing the texture and materiality of the sculptures.
This exhibition is part of the exhibition series "Changes" curated by the Kaunas Artists' House.
